Larry Vance finds that the advocates of the FairTax have backpeddled on many of their most far-flug claims for the merits of their plan. But they still aren’t admiting just how terrible this idea is, nor that the US government should never pass a budget that is in the trillions.

A Florida anti-war group’s peaceful protest of military recruitment during last year’s Fort Lauderdale Air & Sea Show was labeled ‘’subversive” and was being monitored by the Pentagon, which kept a report on the protest in a database designed to track domestic terrorist threats. The Department of Defense says it was just an error and apologizes.

Would you be outraged if you knew your taxpayer dollars were being used to lobby for more government subsidies and higher taxes? Well you should be, because that is exactly what is happening. As a result of earlier abuses, Congress prohibited this misuse of taxpayer money but, unfortunately, the practice has not gone away.

Curt Weldon (R-Pa.) traded his political influence for lucrative lobbying and consulting contracts for his daughter, according to sources with direct knowledge of the inquiry. At issue are Weldon’s efforts to aid two Russian companies and two Serbian brothers with ties to Slobodan Milosevic.
