Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) is holding the implied threat of lost committee seats over the heads of Democratic Caucus members who may vote against her $124 billion Iraq war supplemental bill. Faced with the possibility of losing the first really big vote since taking majority control in the November elections, Pelosi is talking tough.

Today the senate voted 94-2 to cancel a Justice Department-authored provision in the Patriot Act that had allowed the attorney general to appoint U.S. attorneys without Senate confirmation. One less provision for the Bush Administration to abuse!

Bush is allowing his chief political strategist, Karl Rove, to be interviewed, but only if its not “under-oath.” God forbid he might be forced to tell the truth! Though men like him aren’t swayed by little things like lying on the Bible.

Roanoke.com got bored of reporting criminals, so they decided to attack law-abiding gun owners. They published the list of all legally licensed gun carrying Virginians, and now criminals know who to home in on for locating weapons to steal.
I hear lawyers marching! Boycott them by canceling your Roanoke Times & World News paper if you subscribe!
This, honestly, should be filed under the “Stupidity” category.

The following was a letter sent to the Rocky Mount Telegram. I suggest that we give Jennifer and Joshua Hammett support in what they’re doing. Here’s the letter.
This letter is a call to arms of the citizens of Rocky Mount. We are looking for individuals who are tired of Rocky Mount city utility prices. So many people are tired of being robbed by this city, and it’s time that someone does something about it!
Families and individuals are moving out of Rocky Mount at a record rate. Most are looking to leave the city power behind and go somewhere more reasonable. Our power is higher than Raleigh, and there is no reason for it.
Rocky Mount does not have the income for the prices that are being charged. We live in the county and pay county taxes, yet we are forced to pay Rocky Mount city utilities. That is not right. Rocky Mount receives its utilities from Carolina Power & Light. Why does the city charge such a high premium? It is time to cut out the middleman and restore some integrity in Rocky Mount.
We are looking for individuals who are fed up with the nonsense. It is past time that we take a stand against our city of Rocky Mount and its council members and get something accomplished for the good of our city.
You can call us at 252-557-1146. We will compile a list and present it to the City Council.
Thank you for your time and consideration in this matter.
JENNIFER & JOSHUA HAMMETT

Did last week’s bizarre “Global Warming” cover story in Sports Illustrated magazine have you scratching your head wondering what the Earth’s long-term climate cycles have to do with Major League sports? Well, you’re not the only one. And now people are finding other odd references in SI which appear to be out of place for this sports magazine.

Connecticut lawmakers unveiled legislation Wednesday that would require MySpace.com and other social-networking sites to verify users’ ages and obtain parental consent before minors can post profiles. The bill comes a day after a man was sentenced to 14 years in prison for using MySpace.com to set up a sexual encounter with an 11-year-old Ct. girl.
I have a question:Â Where were the girl’s PARENTS?
