SF MAYOR: TAX Caffeine!
December 17th, 2007 . by adminFor years, the idea of taxing soda to beat back obesity has been tossed around in medical circles. But now, San Francisco Mayor Gavin Newsom is proposing a tax on caffeine. I can hear those in Silicon Valley in an uproar (or at least who are left)!
Taxes have long been synonymous with death as a certainty in life. Here we have another example of politicians trying to “do good” for their citizens by generating revenue…er, taxing an item in order to keep people healthy.
As we know from the Prohibition era, overtaxation and/or outright bans, NEVER work and only serve a means to an end for more government regulation over what you consume.
