As if the newly confirmed fourth-quarter GDP figure of 0.6 percent wasn’t chilling enough, the Labor Department reported Thursday that new applications for unemployment insurance benefits rose by 19,000 to 373,000 last week, more evidence that the general economic sluggishness is spilling over into the job market.

China is screaming bloody murder for the US blocking “indiscriminently” of several varieties of seafood. The safety scandals have put at risk surging Chinese agricultural exports to the United States, which reached $2.26 billion last year, led by poultry products, sausage casings, shellfish, spices and apple juice. What I would like to know is why our farmers can’t do this in our own country. Why does the US continue to import food that we should be able to grow right here in our own backyard? Government subsidies and cheap labor are two culprits.

Due to reports released by the USDA, when you smell cow manure, you’re smelling greenhouse gas emissions. $20 million dollars in federal grant/taxpayer money is being awarded to participating farms who apply and are accepted.
