This letter was sent to us, anonymously, regarding the Nash County Commissioners meeting on February 1, 2010.

Robert,

At this morning’s meeting, commissioners again sat silently until a vote was taken on just how to finance the new school construction. They then stuck it to the voters.

The usual procedure, per the N.C. Constitution, for floating a bond, is to list it on the next ballot for voter approval. The idea of getting voter approval to increase our indebtedness started to backfire as governments attempted to take us deeper and deeper into debt and the voters began to reject some of these bonds.

So, our legislature devised a bypass around the people by passing a law whereby some of the public buildings can be listed as collateral for the bonds instead of listing the good faith and credit of the people. By doing this, they can float a bond without ever asking the voters for approval.

At this mornings commissioner meeting, they once again rejected a bond referendum using the excuse of the urgency of the moment. The vote was 4-3 with the four tax and spend democrats voting to take the short-cut. When given an opportunity by Commissioner Wayne Outlaw to assure the voters that a tax increase would not be necessary, the same four democrats again declined to add such a statement to the financing resolution.

Three of these commissioners are up for re-election even though two of them are insulated and protected by racial gerrymandering.

It’s great to know that our county commissioners have no problem saddling future generations with debt.

This article from the Von Mises institute is as relevant today as it was in 2003. Government schemes to take from some in order to benefit others, always end up being destructive for all. The leftist refuse to admit this and continue on every level of govenment by telling us all the wonderful things they are going to do for some with our money.

In this time of raising taxes indescriminately, increasing the rates on utilities for which we are captured customers, and seizing title to property through forced annexation, every politician, administrator, appointee, school teacher, professor, and individual citizen needs to read and understand this.

Government with its inefficiencies can’t take from one, give to another, and make everyone whole through the pipe-dream good of society they are so fond of using as an excuse to steal.

Are we expected to believe that the President’s address to the nation’s school children is a spur of the moment talk and can’t be finalized or released until Monday – the day before it’s to be given? The preliminary reports on this indicated that it was to be a plea to the school children to help the president – with what exactly wasn’t revealed. Now with the backlash from parents and school districts, Mr. Obama’s speech writers may be retuning the talk to avoid accusations of attempts to brainwash our children. The President addressing school children on the importance of education, staying in school, studying hard, etc. is a good thing. A president co-opting children to sway parents to embrace the health care take-over, global warming, Iranian nukes, or any other contrived agenda is just dead wrong.

We all need to read the released talk on Monday and if it contains any political agenda we should demand that it not be shown in our child’s school and failing that, demand that our children be excused from being forced to watch.

Government prescribed curriculum has already diminished the quality of education and has likely lead to some of the societal issues we see in the younger generation.

Looks like Congressman Charles Rangel is an old hand a buying influence. This is another prime example of why we the voters do not need to let these arrogant individuals stay in office for so long. Rangel is under investigation for tax evasion and failure to report a million dollars of income and nearly three million dollars in business transactions. All from a man who writes the nations Tax laws.

The interesting thing about this story is that our own NC 1st congressman – Mr. G.K. Butterfield and two other members of the Congressional Ethics Committee were the receipients of a nice little campaign contribution from uncle Charlie. The most disappointing thing about it is the fact the as a member of the Ethics Committee investigating Congressman Rangel, Mr. G.K. Butterfield sees nothing wrong with receiving money from someone he’s supposed to be investigating.

In the real world, at the very least we call that conflict of interest and at worst taking of a bribe. The bottom line is that anyone contributing money to your campaign certainly will receive some special consideration even if it is subconscious.

Mr. Butterfield should immediately be removed from the Ethics Committee by Congress and then needs to be voted out of office by the public for his conduct in this matter as well as his blind support of the Waxman Climate Change bill and the emerging health care take over.

The North Carolina Senate is attempting to side-step the popular opposition to the practice of forced annexation. The anti-forced annexation opponents want only three simple things – 1. meaningful services, 2. oversight of the process of annexation, 3. a voice in the process. All three requests are well within reason and logic when it comes to government seizing anything from the people. Annexation seizes the income of those annexed as a source of revenue for the municipalities, often without an exchange of any meaningful services. By definition that is theft!

Help give the people a voice against government abuse. Call, write, or email the members of the newly created, heavily biased sub-committee. Tell them SB711 will not do as it does nothing for the citizens. Support Senator Larry Shaw’s SB494.

Well, the City of Rocky Mount has come up with a green policy to pay people that produce more energy than they need and sell the overage back to the City. The City will reimburse you 2.4 cents per kWh produced and with partnership with NCGreenPower providing .15 cents per kWh produced. Right now, I’m trying to confirm this and some other questions.

But don’t expect a shining knight on a white horse to save you on this one. There is a 2 page checklist (PDF) of things you’ll have to do before you can start collecting from the City of Rocky Mount’s Green Energy Policy. So I went around the Internet to some of my favorite and most trusted sites to help people in Rocky Mount, NC and all of our Internet readers with saving on their electric bills, while doing it on the cheap (or cheaper than paying for high utility rates).

BuildItSolar.com – This site is made for the DIY people. It’s got a LOT of information on how to minimize your energy usage using the least amount of dollars. HIGHLY Recommended site.

Backwoods Home Magazine – This magazine is a must-have and I’ve subscribed to it for several years. Our local bookstore used to carry it, but the publisher of the magazine said newsstand sales were costing too much. It’s worth the $24.95/year subscription. My business, Deep Creek Survival gives away a FREE subscription with $300 or more an order. Check their link pages for more links like these.

Backwoodsman Magazine – Ok. This magazine deals with a lot of 18th and 19th century living, primitive living skills and what not, but there are many times in it’s hallowed pages of goodness articles on heating and doing things the good ol’ fashinoned way. Our local bookstore carries it, but the subscription rate is great.

Lehaman’s Non-Electric Catalog – This is THE place to get anything non-electric. Based out of Ohio, in a heavily-populated community of the Amish, they have a fantastic array of items for self-sufficient living. You can see a photo of their store on the web site with the parking lot full of Amish buggies. It’s a site, I’ll tell you. Send them $5 for a catalog or browse online.

Cumberland General Store – Based in the beautiful Tennessee mountains, the Cumberland General Store has everything fit for man and beast. Lots of old-timey items are found here, much like Lehman’s.

Mother Earth News – This magazine can get a little out of hand on the global warming theory, but overall they present good information on how to save on energy and live wisely. Check their web site out.

Back Home Magazine – Great magazine with lots of information of living simpler. The current issue out in our local bookstore has a lovely, modern-looking strawbale house.

FreeSunPower.com – This site has lots of free tutorials for the beginner on up to the advanced user. There are online calculators for figuring up how much energy used based on appliances and the amount of time they’re used. Great for finding out how much a solar power system or wind turbine will have to handle for daily usage.

Otherpower.com – Great site with lots of great information and books. These folks live 12 miles from the nearest powerline and provide all their own electricity needs. I particurlarly fond of the Wood-Fired Steam Engine 2KW Backup Battery Charger. I really would like to make one of those. It even has a steam whistle!

Home Power Magazine – The name says it all. They deal with more than just solar and wind, but hydropower and more.

I’ll put more links up as I find them, but this should help you get started. I’ll also post back what I find out from Mr. Worsinger on a couple of questions I sent him regarding this program and federal laws.
